Thymol sorgt auch f\u00fcr den unverwechselbaren, kr\u00e4ftigen Geschmack des K\u00fcchenkrauts Thymian, das ebenfalls aus T. vulgaris gewonnen wird. Thymol ist bei neutralem pH-Wert in Wasser nur wenig l\u00f6slich, in Alkoholen und anderen organischen L\u00f6sungsmitteln hingegen sehr gut. Aufgrund der Deprotonierung des Phenols ist es auch in stark alkalischen w\u00e4ssrigen L\u00f6sungen l\u00f6slich. Seine Dissoziationskonstante (pKa) betr\u00e4gt 10,59 \u00b1 0,10.
